With the latest COVID restrictions announced Friday Jan 29 the very earliest possible date any curling club would be allowed to open for a return to play would be March 22nd (and unfortunately that date is not guaranteed). This date falls mere days before our typical season end date. Previous to this latest announcement we had planned to run the season into April in an attempt to get as close as possible to the usual number of games for the season, however that is not possible now.
Therefore based on this latest information from last Friday the Granite Board of Directors has met and felt they were left with no option but to make the difficult decision to close for the season. The rationale being we believe it to be fiscally responsible to reduce our costs as much a possible from this point forward to ensure a better financial position going into next season. It is incredibly costly to have the ice plant operating with very little chance of making use of it. We are very disappointed our season has been cut so short especially in light of all the measures that were put in place to allow us to curl safely. However we are still supportive of ensuring our members health and safety as a top priority.
Members please watch for a further individual email in the coming weeks explaining the status of your personal fees and requesting your support to ensure the Granite’s financial viability going forward.
Take care and stay healthy.
